However, by committing words and images to paper, they forced the rudder of design on an imperceptibly different course, and tasted what it’s like to promote a revolution, the flags of which have found their comfortable resting place in history with the release of this not-so-little book.

However, this is not to add relevancy to building, but rather to ask the important “why?”, so that we as professionals understand the social and cultural ramifications of a project beyond its aesthetic effect on the city itself.

One wonders then, even as we bid the concept of a physical newspaper adieu, if the idea of the newspaper could survive a similar occurrence today, and still inform since its infrastructure is now built primarily of digital networks. Perhaps in the end ad hoc solutions will prevail, and the next epic crisis will unfold through analogue means. For as the recent Internet blackout spread across Egypt in the wake of that country’s civil revolution, I’m sure there were people in the streets, short-run papers in hand, trying to tell Egyptians everywhere, that a new day had come.
