I started out my career in architecture as a designer with a corporate firm in Washington D.C, sale accutane. that specialized in office parks, many of which were located in the rapidly developing Reston/Dulles Corridor of Northern Virginia.  The experience, which only lasted 6 months, left me so cynical towards both corporate developers and the architects who serve them that I quit and went to work for another Virginia firm that focused on assisted living, buy accutane without prescription. Cheapest generic accutane online, That however, is another story, accutane professional. Where to order accutane, What I learned during my short tenure at that firm was that the development industry has neither an emotional attachment towards the social implications of the built environment, nor does it care for the utopian projections which began with the modern movement- both sentiments that are drilled into architects brains during their first year of  design education.  Instead, accutane in us, Order accutane on internet, developers have learned to harness what architects typically eschew- society’s fondness for nostalgia and predictability, as well as an ability to conveniently ignore the implications of the environmental damage caused by suburban development, drug accutane online purchase. Accutane tablets, Enter After the city, (this is how we live), order cheap accutane online, Accutane buy, a clever, exploratory pamphlet by Los Angeles architect, buy accutane in canada, Accutane for sale, Tom Marble.  Supported by the Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design, After the city, pharmacy accutane, Order accutane from canada, (this is how we live) cloaks itself in the guise of a Hollywood script weaving a story that is both educational as it is entertaining.  Marble seeks to unravel the why behind all of those “little boxes on the hillside”, how they got there, buy accutane online cheap, Cheap accutane on internet, and the men who made them.  Hollywood has long been infatuated with the suburbs, often portraying them as hotbeds of banal consumption juxtaposed with the prospect of illicit activities which often occur behind the carefully manicured hedgerows and modest facades.   However, buy accutane no prescription required, Accutane for order, while many script writers have explored the psychology and sociology behind suburban living, few have sought to uncover the larger processes that gave us the suburbs in the first place, accutane online sales. Order no rx accutane, Using disillusioned architect Nathaniel Flemming as his tragic hero, Marble populates his story with a flock of vapid characters, accutane information, Accutane internet, whom at best, are two dimensional representations of their real- world counterparts.  The developers I’ve met are far more complex than the individuals depicted in Marble’s story, discount accutane no rx, Buy accutane overnight delivery, though this may meet the standards of cinema, a business where the actor is expected to supplement what the writer leaves out.  His plot borrows character types from L.A.’s own film noir legacy as well as inserting local architect superstars Eric Owen Moss and Frank Gehry, accutane online without a prescription, Cheap accutane from usa, as well as urban theorist Norman Klein into the mix for authenticity.  However, the overarching goal of After the city, cheap accutane in usa, Buy accutane cheap, (this is how we live) is not to paint Boschian portraits of the evil developer and his automaton minions, but to use them as a vehicle in order to teach the reader about the technical processes that are inherent in large scale commercial and residential development.  Covering all scales of subjects from land entitlements to stucco details, accutane australia, Accutane generic, Marble crafts a handbook for deciphering the contemporary development project. Buy accutane without prescription,   The narrative of the script is complimented by a bank of images which populate the latter half of the book and seek to inform us about how cynical and ruthlessly systematic the world of development can be.  Some of the images are a bit scatological, but this can be overlooked when one combines them with the text, a feat easily accomplished by Juliet Bellocq’s restrained and calculated graphic design.  What results is an additional narrative overlay which only emphasizes the pathos unfolding in the cinematic plot that Marble has devised.

I’ve never been a fan of reading scripts and was initially skeptical of Tom Marble’s delivery method for the book.  However, generic accutane, Buy accutane in us, when I recently read it on a flight from Los Angeles (or Ellay as the characters in the book call it) to Florida, I couldn’t put it down.  Marble uses all the predictable hooks and stereotypical characters found in traditional cinematic fiction and yet manages to hold your attention by mixing the lurid details of his characters daily lives with the esoteric minutia embedded in the development industry.  The result being that the reader is both entertained and educated, accutane alternative, Buy discount accutane, which is exactly what one might wish of a project such as this.

After the city, (this is how we live) has few faults and my only general criticism would be that Marble neglects to really uncover the larger realities of the system that created the development industry.  Real estate is predicated on the consumers quest for predictability and security, but it is also much more.  In the world of capitalism property is a representation of the larger territory of global production, with real estate serving as a place holder for the temporal flows of capital itself.   This means that it is a mere mirage of the system, not the actual machine.  It is this concept that the characters of the book are not able to illustrate, possibly because of the excessive scope of such a task.

As my plane flew back to Los Angeles I picked up After the city, (this is how we live) again, scanning the story this time to pick up pieces of detail or plotlines I’d missed before.  After reading the texts’ climatic ending for one last time I put the book back into my carryon, choosing instead to gaze out the window at the Mojave Desert some 28,000 feet below the aircraft.  We were closing in on the L.A. metropolitan area and the brown smear of desert was giving way to the rocky peaks of the San Bernandino Mountains and the equally brown haze of urbanity beyond.  Below me Federally protected wilderness was giving way to the threads of civilization as forest and canyon parted for freeway and suburb.  I squinted down at the emerging sprawl of cul de sacs, strip malls, and single family homes that make up the Eastern San Gabriel Valley, knowing why they were there, how they arrived, and that there would be more.

After the city, (this is how we live) is available through Ram Publications (www.rampub.com) and on Amazon (www.amazon.com).

Buy Ultram Without Prescription

Buy ultram without prescription, Edited by Kazys Varnelis

Actar, 2008. Cheap ultram from canada,

Review by John Southern

During the last ten years of economic mirth a lot has changed in regards to the contemporary city, both in how it looks and how we inhabit it.  Since the late 1990’s both cities and private capital have invested heavily in glamorous architecture and staggeringly beautiful landscape projects whose role it was to enhance a particular metropolises cultural cache in relationship to its global neighbors, ultram information. Best price for ultram,  Technological innovations in consumer electronics coupled with the increasing prevalence of the Internet have enhanced cosmopolitanism and network culture rather than creating isolation that early critics feared.  And while the money poured in aesthetic beauty and civic narcissism reigned supreme.

Now, order ultram cheap online, Find cheap ultram, as capital flows across global markets evaporate and those markets begin to collapse, politicians and civic pundits alike are all whispering the same word:  Infrastructure.  While a new museum or concert hall will be a hard sell over the next decade they theorize, order ultram in canada, Ultram medication, a new bridge or light rail project will not because of the construction jobs those projects generate.  Even President-elect Barack Obama has stated that part of the U.S. economic recovery will hinge on heavy government spending and investment in infrastructure.  As building commissions dry up it is only a matter of time before architects try to align themselves with these new State and Federal patrons, order generic ultram, Ultram online cheap, casting aside formal seduction in favor of survival.

They will no doubt find that infrastructure does not need them and in fact faces a crisis of its own.  It only takes a book like The Infrastructural City to make this apparent.  Edited by network theorist, Kazys Varnelis and published by Actar, The book’s authors seek to clarify the role of infrastructure in shaping the contemporary metropolitan environment as well as illuminate its inherent weaknesses.  Focused on Los Angeles, Varnelis and his writers slowly pick away at the popular misconception among architects that what they produce in urban environments actually affects the way in which cities perform.  Loosely riffing on Rayner Banham’s original thesis in the Architecture of Four Ecologies, the book examines urban constructs such as flood control channels, telecommunication networks, and commercial logistics centers and how their location and physical manifestation shape the city in profound ways that a patron-based civic project such as Frank Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall never could, buy ultram without prescription.

Varnelis is adept at corralling an eclectic mix of writers (many of them practicing architects), buy ultram online, Ultram pharmacy online, photographs, and diagrams, ultram price, Ultram pharmacy, and bonding them together into a seamless trajectory of critical observations about Los Angeles and its surrounding environs.  Save for One Wilshire, a “telco-hotel” in Downtown Los Angeles originally designed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill and intended as “Class A” office space (which never happened due to the economic downturn of the 1980’s), cheapest ultram, Buy ultram us, there is no pedigreed architecture in this book.  Instead, what is discussed in the superbly written essays are the behemoths of capital; the myriad of systems, order ultram in canada, Buy ultram from us, networks, and technologies that make cities work, ultram vendors. Buy no rx ultram, A majority of the writing in the book will satisfy both the casual reader and academic alike.  However, in his introduction Varnelis suggests that the book might serve less as a text for the classroom and more as a guide for the intrepid urban explorer, free ultram, Fda approved ultram, who filled with an unquenchable desire to understand the metropolis that surrounds them, strikes out onto its freeways and river beds searching for enlightenment.  After reading The Infrastructural City, ultram overnight, Ultram online without prescription, I agree with this projection, and see the book as a contemporary to the Thomas Guide- that incredibly detailed and thorough six hundred-plus page map book that every new arrival to Los Angeles used to buy before GPS technology rendered it obsolete.  The beauty of the Thomas Guide was its informational density.  It permitted the user to gain a personalized reading of Los Angeles by allowing them to abstract the various symbols and strains of data into their own “meta-code” of navigation.  However, buy generic ultram, Canadian pharmacy ultram, don’t be fooled into thinking this is simply a book for fans or scholars of Los Angeles.  The essays in it espouse to the ideal that the various topics are relevant to the larger global perception of urbanism and that Los Angeles is merely playing the role of the provocateur in this scenario.  In short, this could have taken place in New York, buy ultram on internet, Cheap price ultram, Hong Kong, or Dubai and the message would still be the same- Infrastructure is the dominant force that shapes the contemporary city, order generic ultram, Ultram medication, not architecture, but both are in crisis due to the break-down of speculative financial markets coupled with the proliferation of NIMBYism in the modern city, canadian ultram. Buy ultram from india, What also becomes apparent after reading The Infrastructural City is how tenuous the architect’s role in contributing to the built environment really is.  As capital flows increase their plasticity and are lubricated by technology, cities choke on grass-roots democracy and localized individualism, discount ultram, Buying generic ultram, stymieing new civic projects.  As a result, infrastructures role as a panacea for solving the problems of the contemporary metropolis only gains friction leaving it open to terminal failure.   Only by understanding and recognizing this reality will architects be able to operate in the contemporary urban terrain, ultram in malaysia. Online ultram, As commissions continue to elude practitioners during the current global economic malaise, architects and urban planners may be left wondering where they went wrong, ultram pill. Ultram sales, The Infrastructural City will help them. Purchase ultram. Cost ultram. Find ultram.

Buy Propecia Without Prescription

There is a Robert Longo video that he did for New Order Buy propecia without prescription, in the 1980’s which features a repetitive shot of men and women in business suits falling through the air.  The song, Bizarre Love Triangle has the line, “…every time I see you falling, I get down on my knees and pray…”and between the lyrics and Longo’s imagery suggestions have been made that the people depicted in the video are actually falling yuppies, who having been driven mad by their consumption are flinging themselves out of their high-rise office windows.  This analogy was given an even more sinister bent during 9-11, when yuppies (and a lot of normal working-class folk) did actually throw themselves out of the windows of the Twin Towers, presumably to their deaths in order to escape the flames licking at their backs.

Where am I going with this?  Well, propecia in us, Order propecia from us, I’ve been giving a lot of thought lately to the suggestive qualities of Longo’s images and I have my friend, Kazys Varnelis to thank for the memory-jog regarding the falling yuppies.  In the past decade we’ve seen, online propecia, Buy propecia once daily, along with the global economic market’s “irrational exuberance”, an influx of high-end, order propecia no prescription required, Buy generic propecia online, designed things.  There was a time when one had to search hard for interesting, indie-designed house wares, order propecia from canada, Buy propecia no rx, t-shirts, or other high-concept tchotckies.  Usually they were made by a local designer and touted at the local indie swap meet or struggling boutique.  Most of those small indie shops have been priced out of the neighborhoods they helped to gentrify and been replaced by the much more formidable landscape of over-priced retro sneaker shops like Undefeated and specialty vendors like Giant Robot.  In the name of distracting myself from the larger implications of the housing crisis, propecia malaysia, Buy no rx propecia, the banking crisis, the market liquidity crisis, propecia without a prescription, Find propecia, and of course, the newly minted unemployment crisis, low cost propecia, Buy cheap propecia, I dwell for the time being on what I predict is the impending collapse of the world of designed things.

The image above depicts Yolk, generic propecia, Cheap price propecia, a trendy boutique in my neighborhood of Silver Lake.  Yolk was never really affordable to the average person, but in recent years it’s transformed itself into an excellent example of the irrational exuberance that has capsized the independent design market and the neighborhoods that support it by raising its prices to truly astronomic levels.  Being someone who appreciates well-designed objects, buy propecia on internet, Order propecia overnight delivery, I don’t mind the plunking down big bucks on utilitarian things that I’ll use every day, like a set of Japanese Global knives for example.  However, discount propecia no rx, Propecia no rx required, what makes me sick is walking into a store and seeing a $75.00 set of salt and pepper shakers that look like a pair of sad ghosts or a $30.00 for set of porcelain cups that are designed look like crushed paper ones.  Now Yolk doesn’t exactly carry these particular items, but go to sites like Coolhunting.com or Cerealart.com and you’ll find plenty of real-life artifacts all for real-life ridiculous prices.  This is not to say that some craftsy, propecia no prescription, Buying propecia, artistic objects aren’t interesting (most I’d say, are not) or that some don’t serve some useful purpose, propecia buy drug, Propecia online, but there is no rational reason for the high-prices of these objects, other than that up to now, tablet propecia, Sale propecia,   people were willing to use their disposable income for such things.  And just so I’m not accused of naiveté, I know that high-design objects take time to make and generally cost a lot of money for the first run.  However, propecia overnight, Generic propecia cheap, when one looks at the $55.00 silk-screened T-Shirts being hawked by the Standard Hotel on Coolhunting, irrational exuberance is the only way to describe the situation, propecia prices. Cheap propecia online, Enter the impending crisis facing the world of stuff.  International Herald Tribune columnist, Alice Rawsthorn wrote about this very topic in a recent piece which gave evidence that the limited-edition furniture market, discount propecia, Buy propecia from us, like its bigger cousin, the Contemporary Art market, cheap generic propecia, Online pharmacy propecia, is due for a correction.  Exhibiters at Design-Miami are sweating bullets at the prospect that they might actually have to ship their products back home this year, or even worse, propecia purchase, Propecia buy, part with them at bargain basement prices.
Now, propecia us, Propecia without rx, I’m no stranger to stocking my pad with designer re-issues.  I have bought my fair share of over-priced Eames chairs and have a replica Prouve dining table that I absolutely love, But these items are signature design pieces, lowest price propecia, Cheapest generic propecia, that like-it-or-not, have the both the pedigree and the detailed attention to design that dictate their high price.  Head to the Design Within Reach Website and you’ll find a glut of poorly designed, but never-the-less expensive furniture on sale, as the retailer struggles to keep the books in the black.
The bigger issue here is the effect it has on the urban neighborhoods that many of these high-end boutiques inhabit. These glossy commercial time bombs essentially displace traditional neighborhood establishments which are more in-line with the socio-economic fabric of the area.  What is even worse is that these nouveau riche establishments have discouraged more moderately priced shops from moving into transitioning neighborhoods which has resulted in a glut of high-end commerce in a neighborhood full of newly arrived white folk, who buy everything on credit…

…and who are now unemployed.

Now that the economy is no longer flush, the “Creative Class” is now unemployed and broke, at least for the time-being.  Credit card bearing Hipsters and high-flying Creatives are now retracting into their formerly BoHo economic shells and leaving a stinking beach of desperate retail in the wake of their departure.  The first tier has already collapsed in my neighborhood, with establishments with names like Sueno and The Kids Are Alright being the first to post the inevitable “Going out of Business Sale” across their marquis.

The problem with this whole system is that with credit being so tight the empty storefronts left by these establishments will not be filled and will result in increased vandalism and blight.  These vacant storefronts represent what is probably a lasting collapse of the world of stuff, as we consumers finally reign in our irrational exuberance and start taking a long hard look at what and why we buy.

Buy Soma Without Prescription

Buy soma without prescription, Disaster.

I spent an eventful two days in the “Crescent City” otherwise known as New Orleans.  During my stay I toured sites devastated by hurricane Katrina, order soma no prescription, Buy cheapest soma, including the 9th Ward, which is now in an interesting period of flux.  Part of the 9th remains a virtual ruin, soma no online prescription, Soma vendors, with the only remains of civilization demarcated by partially destroyed foundations and assorted domestic debris.  Having grown up on the Gulf Coast I am accustomed to seeing the devastation wrought by hurricanes.  However, in the case of New Orleans, discount soma without prescription, Buy soma online cheap, it is a different and more sinister matter.  Imagine L.A., half destroyed by an earthquake remaining that way in perpetuity.  Imagine, find soma no prescription required, Soma pharmacy, a large majority of L.A.’s lower class population being shuttled off to other cities in hopes that they will never return.  This is New Orleans.  It is a city where class-struggles have been wiped out by Mother Nature and where the rebuilding effort has been marred by rampant fraud and street crime.

Despite the bleak outlook on the city there are several humanitarian organizations who have pledged to help the less fortunate citizens’ of New Orleans.  One of the more notable groups is Brad Pitts’ “Make It Right” organization.  I myself was rather skeptical of Mr, compare soma prices online. Purchase soma no rx, Pitt’s efforts in the New Orleans community and still remain as such.  However, the actor-cum-architect has so far put on a respectable public display and exhibition in the Lower 9th Ward to show several proposals that will be enacted in the DMZ that marks the zone where the levy broke, real soma without prescription. Soma from canada,

From an urban design perspective, this effort brings with it a tragic message.  If successful, soma for sale, Buy cheapest soma online, Mr. Pitt and the “Make It Right” organization will prove that private capital succeeds where the public realm stumbles.  While I applaud Mr, buy soma without prescription. Pitt for succeeding his destiny as “obnoxious, canadian soma, Order cheap soma, obsequious, mega-star” I still chaff at the thought that the public sector is essentially “sitting on its hands” and not being more proactive in the rebuilding of New Orleans, canadian pharmacy soma. Soma cheap,

From the stories I heard, the Post-Katrina New Orleans is not unlike the wild-wild West of one hundred years ago.  Fraud is the norm, soma prescription, Cheap soma no rx, as “fly-by-night” contractors and other nefarious individuals prey on the poor and helpless citizens of New Orleans- many of whom lack the resources to re-build their shattered lives.

So where does this leave architecture, no rx soma. Soma from india,

I would argue that in order to survive, the City of New Orleans will need to rely more and more on private capital, soma tablets, Soma online pharmacy, such as that provided by Mr. Buy soma without prescription, Pitt.  This brings with it a certain series of aesthetic and spatial assumptions that will no doubt cause friction and discord in contemporary urban environments. We are entering an age where the social advances of the early 20th Century are dissolving in the face of greed and piracy by corporations and privateers, find cheap soma online, Buy soma online australia, who are bent on transferring the assets of the public realm to that of the private.  I’ve not yet read former U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert Reich’s book “Super Capitalism”, cheap soma pill, Buying generic soma, but I do understand the premise, which essentially outlines our re-entrenchment into the world of “robber barons”, certified soma, Soma in australia, a term which seems more synonymous with the 19th Century than the 21st.

I predict in 2008 we will see more evidence of “Super Capitalism” like that found in New Orleans, generic soma online. Approved soma pharmacy,

What does this mean for architecture?  Well, one can be sure that it means less public space and more “surveiled” private space.  I could not help wondering that if New Orleans could socially implode after a natural disaster such as Katrina, soma order, Buy soma low price, then L.A. could face a similar fate.  Of course the conditions within New Orleans are quite a bit different than in Los Angeles.  What I learned from my visit to New Orleans was that urbanism, soma online without a prescription, Cheap soma on internet, like any organism, it a fragile vessel, cheap soma from usa, Cheap soma pharmacy, and one certainly capable of its own self-destruction, given the right circumstances, buy cheapest soma on line. Order discount soma online,

What I have not yet ascertained is whether or not architects and urban planners can truly design their way out of these impending urban catastrophes and find opportunistic ways of redesigning the city in a positive fashion.  It is possible of course that any altruistic goals for places like New Orleans lack the resistance to thwart the inevitable gravity of Capital and all of its temptations.

Only time will tell.

Buy Levitra Jelly Without Prescription

Buy levitra jelly without prescription, Since the early 20th Century Los Angeles has always been America’s domestic laboratory.  Planners and architects have infused the metropolis with a diverse mix of zoning regulations, housing typologies, and infrastructural experiments to serve new housing developments, which only now are entering their maturity.  Because the city has eschewed verticality in favor of flatness, Los Angeles is poised to evolve into a vibrant hybrid of hyper-stratified urbanity and suburban expansiveness in the 21st Century.

In recent years, levitra jelly side effects, Where to order levitra jelly, both planning and development circles alike have been touting the flurry of speculative activity that has been unfolding in Los Angeles’ long neglected Downtown.  To think that the L.A. could evolve into a traditional centrally focused city like Manhattan or Chicago, compare levitra jelly prices, Levitra jelly cost, simply growing upwards rather than outwards would be naïve at best.  For unlike those carefully controlled visions of urbanity which are about a type of developmental “smoothing”, Los Angeles has always expanded through a kind of “friction” caused by the collision of its domestic desires with its infrastructural needs.  It is what built the LA Aqueduct, levitra jelly sale, Levitra jelly medicine, the endless grid of San Fernando Valley suburbia, the freeways, cheap levitra jelly tablets, Buy levitra jelly lowest price, and is what gave architects the hubris to design homes that cling to the city’s steep hills like cicada to a tree.

How then is this friction currently manifested in Los Angeles?  What does the inevitable collision of domestic densities currently unfolding in the city foretell of its future growth?  How do new infrastructural developments that attempt to cleave Angelenos from their automobiles actually contribute to this friction rather than smooth it?  Finally, levitra jelly buy online, Order levitra jelly no rx, what does this friction do for the evolution of the domestic environment itself within the city. Buy Tramadol Without Prescription

(Editors note:  This review originally appeared in Tropolism Buy tramadol without prescription, )

On a sunny afternoon in late November, I rolled over to the MAK Center at the Schindler House on Kings Road in order to make sense of GenHome - An exhibition of digerati-leaning architects who are engaged in “Genetic Modifications” of the Schindler House.  The show was guest curated by Eran Neuman, Aaron Sprecher, and Chandler Ahrens of Open Source Architecture, and features work from both local and global practices such as Greg Lynn’s LA-based practice FORM, and Servo. Cheap tramadol tablets, Architecture has always had its fetishists, and the participants in the show are certainly that.  They are enraptured with technology and its effects on culture and form.  The rigor about which they embrace digital methods of representation and production is admirable despite its predictable collapse when trying to relate the pieces back to the topic of architecture.  What’s offensive is the total failure by the show’s curators to engage the general public who would be lucky to understand any of the pieces in the show in relation to architecture, order tramadol in canada, Buy tramadol on internet, or the Schindler House, much less their daily lives, cheap price tramadol. Order tramadol from us, Now I occasionally appreciate a good academic display of intellectual opacity, a rigorous investigation of form, discount tramadol online, Cheap tramadol tablet, and projects that seek to hash out innovative new architectures.  However, there is nothing redeeming about this exhibition.  The “genetic modifications” are mere appliqué in the space of the house- without voice or reason.  The Schindler House easily overpowers them, tramadol professional, Certified tramadol, reducing them to the anemic objects they really are.

Servo’s “Sporgs” in the Schindler Nursery
Perhaps one success was Servo’s “Spoorg” project.  It consisted of small spider-like devices which clung in a lattice formation to the window of the nursery.  These mechanisms emitted a barely imperceptible series of “beeps” and “hums” which some compared to a robotic nursery rhyme, find tramadol online, Tramadol cost, but to this author brought to mind the score from David Cronenberg’s 1970’s Sci-Fi classic “Scanners”.  Servo ought to have secured the whole show as their own; having already demonstrated an aptitude for creating fascinating digital environments- their Lattice Archipelogics exhibition comes to mind here.  It would have been nice to have seen the Schindler House completely inundated with Spoorgs, whose electronic chirping and twittering might have driven the staff of the MAK Center to the point of suicide, approved tramadol pharmacy. Tramadol pharmacy online, Karl S. Chu’s work ZyZx displays the architect’s fascination for “Genetic Space” in a series of digitally rendered orbs, which Chu says represent a world of planets each with their own “variable potentialities”.  Thought beautiful as art, one has to question how these exercises can become re-appropriated by architecture.  There is a certain beauty in Chu’s work, but it fumbles any connection to humanity, leaving the viewer appreciative of the aesthetics, but without a clue as to their cultural relevance, buy tramadol without prescription.

From a galaxy far, cheap generic tramadol, Sale tramadol, far away.  Karl S. Chu, buy cheap tramadol, Cheap tramadol online, Planetary Automata series
Finally, the most offensive piece in the show was the hulking Styrofoam mound produced by Marcos Novak.  Novak’s piece was supposed to demonstrate what happens to architecture when “we stop building it and start growing it”.  The mound apparently was to serve the purpose of a “hulking alien presence” which would activate the space with sound and projections, buy no rx tramadol, Overnight tramadol, leaving the viewer in awe of the organic future that awaits mankind.  I missed the projections which I assume were malfunctioning, but was impressed by the vibrations produced in the room from the speakers.  In the end it seemed once again, buy cheapest tramadol on line, Tramadol online, that rather than the preferred mutation, Novak had left us with something else, purchase tramadol online, Where to order tramadol, and by my observations it seemed to be on hell of a sub-woofer.

The biggest subwoofer in the world!  Marcos Novak’s Allo_Gen (H)ome
Perhaps the truly sad thing about this show was the lack of attention to how and why it existed at all.  It’s interrogations of the Schindler house seemed oblique at best.  The craft and quality of much of the work had obviously been curtailed by the constraints of budget and execution.  While gallant in their attempts to met out new meaning for architectural expression in the digital age, cheapest generic tramadol, Discount tramadol, what the protagonists of the show gave us was a farce- real life cruelly bent by  wavering sense of materiality and unrealized desire- truly the stuff of dreams are made of.

Buy Levitra Without Prescription

(Editors Note:  This review originally appeared in Tropolism) Buy levitra without prescription, When a colleague mentioned the title of the “Skin + Bones” exhibition to me a few months ago, I had to repress the impulse to vomit.  It’s rare that I have such episodes without a heavy night of drinking, but the thought of pinning such an obvious title to such a tired topic evokes turmoil in even the most solid of stomachs. Cheapest levitra online, Had I known that the exhibition would be so well produced, so perfectly in sync with the thesis of mixing fashion with architecture, buy levitra internet, Levitra pills, I might have saved myself the gastronomic discontent.  In fact, I think that even the most cynical of mind will find this show a delight to the eye, levitra overnight delivery, Cheapest generic levitra online, and a moderate mental work out to the mind.  It’s certainly “theory-lite”, but it fulfills the need to simultaneously educate the public about something they tend to take for granted:  Fashion + Architecture, order levitra. Levitra sales, I visited the show three times- once at the opening night, once on my own during the week, buy cheapest levitra, Best price levitra, and once after hours in the company of some friends when the museum was closed.  With each visit I was more convinced of the show’s natural ability to engage both the general public and the cultural intelligentsia.  Not to confuse the issue however, populism alone does not make for a pleasant museum experience.  Critical exhibitions not only question their contents, compare levitra prices online, Levitra online stores, but draw out questions about larger cultural issues as well.  This last topic has been missing from many contemporary exhibitions and it’s nice to see a show that at least discusses where we are as a culture and does not try to take a stand about societal ills which inevitably cannot be solved within the space of the museum.  Perhaps to read this correctly though, one might want to adhere to the notion that by not talking about larger global inequities, levitra no rx, Levitra in us, you can at least get people thinking about why they are not more in the forefront.

To clarify, find levitra, Order levitra no prescription, this discussion is somewhere between the cold affectations of Hans Ibelings Super Modernism and that nebulous world of the “post-critical” so in vogue these days with cultural theorists.  Don’t expect utopian solutions to the global disparities between rich and poor or the ruthless capacity of Capitalist forces to crush those localities that do not conform to the flexible standards of the marketplace.  Instead you’ll find a smoothing; a celebration of the post-critical age.  In a society that flagellates itself over the continuing crises of class, religion, levitra pill, Order levitra overnight delivery, and race, this show is blissfully unaware that such things exist for the most part.  Instead, tablet levitra, Buy discount levitra, what the viewer is dealt is a fair hand of what a beautiful and complex organism man really is.

Happy opening night crowds hovering around Greg Lynn’s bubble wall for the Slavin House.
Brooke Hodge, levitra prices, Levitra online cheap, the shows curator has spent her time immersed in the culture of both fashion and architecture.  She has a knack for selecting work for the show that balances beauty with criticality, affect with effect, cheapest levitra price, Buy generic levitra, and most importantly theory with practice.  There is as much information about process in the show as there is about product, and that’s exciting.  All too often, levitra information, Online pharmacy levitra, architecture shows simply exhibition the final product- the baby without the taboo of the placenta.

“Bad Press:  Dissident Housework Series, 1998” by Diller + Scofido welcomes the museum visitor as the first piece of architectural content in the show- a fitting mix of architecture, fashion and form, where the process negates the article.  It is perhaps one of the more clever mixings of the exhibition and certainly the most literal of connections, and certainly evokes more applause than the firms’ recent work, The Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston.  This project which is currently under construction only distracts from Diller + Scofidio’s (who have added a partner Renfro) portfolio, which is ripe with work that is hyper-critical, yet does not need architecture to validate itself, buy levitra without prescription.

J, cheapest levitra. Cheap levitra from usa, Meejin Yoon takes prize for the most playful work in the show.  Her “Mobius” and “Defensible” dresses aim at balancing the sobriety of craft with the casual referentiality to how clothing can emulate technology and vice-versa.  The Mobius dress is of course a continual strip of felt, which unzips to form different configurations.   Like the Mobius Strip itself infinite possibilities lay within the dresses folds.  The Defensible dress is much more two the point.  It looks like a  spiked apparatus embedded with electronic sensors that are meant to be worn like a modern-day bustle; A bustle that deploys itself when another person gets too close.  It critiques both the notions of personal space, buy levitra on line, Levitra sale, and how despite innovations in social equality, the female sex is still searching for balance in how they interact with their male counterparts, discount levitra no rx. Buy cheap levitra internet,

As one moves through the show, the volume of work is both mesmerizing and suffocating.  Multiple passes are required to absorb the clothes, buy levitra online without prescription, Buy levitra lowest price, the architectural models, the drawings, find cheap levitra, Purchase levitra without prescription, and the footage of fashion shows gone by.  In short, this impressive exhibition is an immersive journey into some of the elements that have made the contemporary environment- architecture of the body, lowest price for levitra, and an architecture of socio-spatial content.  It seeks to remind us that beyond the decay of social inequity, the rot of religious extremism, and the dogmatic rhetoric of the socio-political strife is a lightness.  This lightness revels in the glamor of the overtly stylized object, the sublime complexity of the environments we make as a culture, and most importantly a blind optimism in beauty that has the capacity to rise above all malcontent.

Buy Female Cialis Without Prescription

(Authors Note:  This review originally appeared in Tropolism)

Buy female cialis without prescription, On a culture-filled Sunday this past September 17th I tromped down to Downtown Los Angeles to take in several fantastic “Spectacles of Culture”.  First, I visited the Banksy show, which was held in an out-moded industrial structure off of Santa Fe Blvd. Female cialis no rx required, in the heart of LA’s industrial district.  Banksy, the merry prankster of the street-art world, female cialis no online prescription, Buying generic female cialis, jammed the warehouse with examples of his work, and an live elephant as well.  I shall not comment on the show as it has already been done to death by the press and therefore can be summed up with the phrase “if you were there, buy female cialis no prescription required, Female cialis buy, you’d know what I’m talking about”.

The event was, female cialis without a prescription, Female cialis overnight, however simply the primer for the next stop which was to take place at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc).

As an alumni of SCI-Arc I try and avoid the place as much as possible, female cialis drug, Female cialis uk, and usually need a pretty good reason to go back.  For those who managed to visit the Neil Denari “Fluoroscape” show during it’s roughly one month run you would probably agree that it was an excellent reason to drop in on the institution and it’s former director.  Congratulations to Neil for coming back to the school who gave him the boot in 2001.  As a student who spent time with both Denari and Eric Owen Moss, (Denari’s tyrannical replacement) I have always admired Neil’s clarity and his perceptive observations on contemporary culture, female cialis overnight shipping. Generic female cialis cheap, Fluoroscape is a dramatic piece that functions more in the realm of installation and affect than architecture and effect.  Constructed of white metal rib-work and standard T-5 fluorescent lamps (of the same kind, the press-kit notes, buy female cialis from us, Order female cialis from canada, as “…every supermarket, school cafeteria, female cialis india, Buy female cialis from canada, and office space across the global landscape”), this object somehow escapes it’s “objectness” and transcends the boundaries between architecture and installation culture.  Situated in SCI-Arc’s small (but tall) “Fish-bowl” gallery, female cialis internet, Female cialis online without a prescription, the work is indicative of Denari’s pursuit of the perfect aesthetic which might for a moment come to represent the temporality of the global commercial environment.

Described as a “solid surface object” the entire piece was meant to react to the visitors presence.  I’m not sure how successful this might have been as the piece was set to alternate the light fields (three distinct bodies operating separately) via a timer.  Certainly had there been more time, the designers at NMDA would’ve developed an electronic system that could’ve have sensed the viewers presence and flickered accordingly.  Never-the-less the work is a stunning success and ought to travel and be tested in an assortment of venues.  Only then will it’s validity as “space maker” be complete, buy female cialis without prescription.

This project also represents another theme in Denari’s work: corporate collaboration.  Neil is a firm believer in corporate sponsorship (his first installation, female cialis buy online, Find no rx female cialis, Project No. 9601, buy generic female cialis online, Buy female cialis us, was sponsored by Sony).  Fluorscape was sponsored by Bartco Lighting of Huntington Beach California and demonstrates that architects and their corporate sponsors and suppliers can go beyond the simple exchange of commerce.  What emerges is an art object that flaunts the wares of it’s sponsor, but keeps true with the architects vision of aesthetics, canadian pharmacy female cialis. Buying female cialis, Denari was there by the way, grinning broadly, order cheap female cialis, Find cheap female cialis online, and hawking Fluoroscape posters designed in the French New Wave style.   No one showed up, which was a little sad, buy female cialis in us, Buy female cialis once daily, and possibly and indicator of the SCI-Arc’s waning influence in the city.  Denari was positive though, playing the good host, female cialis cheap drug, Buy female cialis from india, entertained questions aplenty and held court with the few admirers who bothered to drop in for this closing event of his amazing show.

I just wish more had come to see it, buying female cialis online, Cheapest female cialis prices, because any images presented here will fail to represent this cunning installation, which acts as both architecture and phenomenology, best price for female cialis, Low price female cialis, as well as a suggestive jab at the inadequacies of the contemporary built-environment. Buy Cialis Super Active+ Without Prescription

(Authors note:  This  piece also appears in Tropolism)

Buy cialis super active+ without prescription, Throw a rock, hit an architect, clever armatures, &  the A+D’s new home. Cialis super active+ for order,
I’ve had the pleasure of surviving several parties associated with the recent AIA Convention here in Los Angeles last week, but none were so fascinating as the one held on Friday, buy cialis super active+ without prescription, Cialis super active+, June 9th in honor of the New Blood: Next Gen exhibition at the A+D (or Architecture + Design for those not in the know) Museum.  I’d had a similar, far more intoxicated viewing of the show a week prior when it unveiled itself to L.A.   The redux could not have been better, drug cialis super active+ online purchase. Cialis super active+ pharmacy, For one thing the drinks at the bar were weak to the point of water (to keep those visiting architects from points afar under control no doubt), and to top that off, cialis super active+ for sale, Buy cialis super active+ in canada, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art was opening it’s David Hockney: Portraits show across the street.  Perhaps it would’ve been fitting to have visited LACMA first and absorbed those famous works of celebs and lovers gone by.  However, this was impossible.  Due to lack of operating budget, online cialis super active+, Cialis super active+ online sales, or fear of being overrun by all of  those rabid visiting architects, the museum closed early, purchase cialis super active+, Drug cialis super active+, ejecting everyone across Wilshire Blvd. and into the brightly illuminated A+D Museum, cialis super active+ in australia. Cheap cialis super active+ overnight delivery, Where they probably wished the drinks were stronger.

So for those who haven’t picked up on the sarcasm quite yet, I’ll layer some more on for good measure.  The show was fabulous.  It showcased the absolute supreme of L.A.’s young architectural foie gras and everyone in attendance left the premises to change their unmentionables.  There will never be another show quite like it in all time.  The museums new locale- a droll, mid-eighties, Wilshire Blvd, buy cialis super active+ without prescription. office tower, buy discount cialis super active+ online, Cialis super active+ in uk, or at least the “Mini-Me” satellite version, was arguably more interesting in a critical way than much of the work on exhibit, find discount cialis super active+. Cialis super active+ approved, Hand Enough.

I didn’t hate it that much, cialis super active+ cheap, Cialis super active+ online review, in fact I thought several of the particiapting firms work are worth mention.  My main criticism of the show (besides the fact that several firms paid to exhibit), was that the work lacks any sort of consistency or punch worthy of Los Angeles’ rich architectural heritage.  There are certainly many participants who come close, buy cialis super active+ generic, Cialis super active+ canada, but in these times of the “Frank and Tom Show” one wonders if there is a “next” next.  One recalls the 100 Years of Architecture exhibition a few years back at the Geffen Contemporary in Downtown L.A.  That show had both designers and the public curious about architecture.  It made one want to run home and start making stuff.  What comes to mind about the show is the work featured from the Santa Monica School period of LA’s architectural history and its unified attempts to be avant-garde.  Why bother foisting a show upon the general public if you’re not going to make them a little bit afraid of architects and their buildings.

Enter the Dwell Factor.  A few years ago Dwell Magazine took the country by storm, buy cheapest cialis super active+ online, Cialis super active+ purchase, pushing aside trade rags such as Architecture and Metropolis. Buy cialis super active+ without prescription, What made Dwell so palatable to the general public is that they were able to pander to the average client’s main worry:  “Am I going to have a place to put my stuff and is the container going to look nice?”  What has resulted is an architecture that is rich in materiality, and comfort, but silent in its critique of the way we inhabit space.  It assumes that we have pre-programmed our personal space to accept whatever is in vogue at the time (for Dwell this would be Modernism reborn).

I’m sure most of you can figure where I’m going by this point, where to buy cialis super active+, Cheap cialis super active+ on internet, but I’ll elaborate.  The big problem with the show is that so many of the pieces lack a voice or critical message.  They are, at best, cialis super active+ tablet, Order cialis super active+ without prescription, a vain attempt at architectural hypnotism; a project to get more projects. What is needed here is something to inspire, fda approved cialis super active+, Canada cialis super active+, something to force the hand that the “Dwell client” has dealt the profession.  I would have simply loved to have seen something ugly.

Questionable artifacts, buy cialis super active+ overnight delivery, Cialis super active+ online sale, archi-groupies at E.G.’s poster booth, & Hostcell’s entry.
To close, cialis super active+ free sample, Cheap cialis super active+ without prescription, the notes I made from the exhibition are vague at best, so I’ll be brief.  The show was exhibited by having each exhibitor create a 2’-0” X 8’-0” display whose armature was a set of rolling scaffolding of the same proportion.  The participants all chose different methods of exhibiting the work and some went to great lengths to drain as much electrical power from the building as possible with their array of LCD screens and elaborate displays.  Some however, cheap cialis super active+ no rx, No prescription cialis super active+, stand out in their low-tech cleverness.

Techentin Buckingham takes the award for strangest, cheap cialis super active+ in usa, Order cialis super active+ no rx, banal box at the museum.  Painted grey and dotted with brass peep-holes (which were very “in” this year at the show- GRAFT had scuba masks), their display was about as ambiguous as one can get, order cialis super active+ in us, Cialis super active+ without prescription, and was a refreshing break from the visual carnival going on around it.  What was inside no one could be sure, but I think I saw a white foam blob attacking another white blob.  It was a wonderful piece and hopefully will make an appearance somewhere else, order discount cialis super active+ online.

Escher GuneWardena took prize for being the most minimal.  All that could be found was a stack of posters of the firms work and a tray of rubber bands atop the scaffolding.  E.G, buy cialis super active+ without prescription. took it upon themselves to create a very clever solution to the Museums rigid exhibition armatures- create interest by creating space.  Even the work displayed on the posters was shown in the construction phases.  It was a very savvy and restrained contribution that no doubt earned them some new fans.

Hostcell and Patterns are both worth a mention as I highly respect both principals and their offices work.  Marcello Spina, the principal of Patterns has inserted himself into the LA scene nicely, and continues to create interesting forms that utilize topological surface solutions in a controlled and elegant fashion.  Similarly Axel Schmitzberger of Hostcell managed to put together an inspiring exhibition that shed the 2x8 monolithic shell for a sleekly milled array of plexi-glass forms that cradled business cards and an LCD of the firms recent work.

It will be interesting to see how the A+D continues to serve the LA Architectural community in the immediate future.  It certainly has a monolithic task.  To draw together so many voices and still create a singular message is a challenge for even the most seasoned curator or institution.  However, what is even more frightening is the possibility that the “New Blood” show is not a litmus test of the currently jaundiced Los Angeles architectural scene, but of evidence of a decline in the influence of the larger global design community as a whole.  If this is the case, then meet me at the nearest bar, because I’m going to need another drink

The A+D Museum:  5900 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90036.  The Show will continue to run through August 1st, 2006.  For more information please visit www.aplusd.org..

Buy Zoloft Without Prescription

Buy zoloft without prescription, Editors Note:  This piece originally ran through the "Features" page in D.I.C. Version 2.0 on 05.15.06, low price zoloft. Find cheap zoloft online, There comes a time in an architect’s career when self-preservation (in an archival sense) begins to seep into the sub-conscious like water under a dam.   Building great works of architecture can only provide one with the fleeting feelings of monumentality in as long as they are left standing.  Film, however, best price for zoloft, Cheap zoloft online, is easily reproducible and thus may well exist for eternity.   All you need to complete the equation is a friend with a movie camera and a penchant for probing questions and its “Lights. Camera, find zoloft without prescription. Find cheap zoloft, Action!”.

The last phrase invariably came to mind on Monday evening when I attended the LA Premiere of “Sketches of Frank Gehry” directed by his good friend, Sydney Pollack, buy zoloft without prescription. The film was shown at an event entitled “Reel Talk” hosted by Vanity Fair and Tiffany’s at the Directors Guild Of America building- a piece of architecture so banal that it almost does injustice to the artists it seeks to unite, find zoloft online. No rx zoloft, The evening couldn’t have felt more like Hollywood, with ear-piece wearing, zoloft no rx, Zoloft free sample, dark-suited security thugs omnipresent, and models showing off the jewelry designed for Tiffany’s by none other than the true star of the evening: Frank Gehry.   After signing in and getting my wrist band (for the “exclusive” after party to be held later) I stuffed my business card in a Tiffany’s box so as to have a chance to win some of the Big Man’s “bling-bling”, zoloft buy drug. Find zoloft no prescription required, For those of you who are outside the LA Architectural community, Gehry is perceived here as a kind of Fidel Castro of Architecture- He did some great things and was a revolutionary, zoloft price, Order zoloft without prescription, but now he’s just another plump guy with a cigar draped in revolutionary nostalgia.   Most of us wish he’d just go away, and clear the territory for some new blood in LA’s architectural “Super Star” scene, find discount zoloft. Order zoloft cheap online, "It’s So Stupid Looking its Great”

This out of the mouth of the Big Man during a design session with his partner, Craig Webb, buy zoloft canada, Order zoloft no prescription, who meekly cuts another piece of paper to add to the model they are working on.  Pollack has essentially woven the cinematic tapestry of the film out of three threads:  1) Personal discussions between Gehry and himself.  2) Candid shots of Gehry’s buildings and office, with the Big Man merrily leading the audience around, cheap zoloft tablets, Cheapest zoloft prices, looking like a kid in a candy store.  3) Brief commentary by some of Gehry’s longtime friends, and in the case of Hal Foster, zoloft cheap, Zoloft uk, critics. Buy zoloft without prescription, I think overall this last thread is the most entertaining bit about the film, because you have a group of respected professionals from all walks of life (Ed Ruscha, Charles Jenks, Philip Johnson (Philip Johnson folks. Walking amongst us again!), buy zoloft low price, Buy cheap zoloft, Dennis Hopper, and many more) talking about the Big Man and his work in a candid fashion, certified zoloft, Buying zoloft online, that unlike Sydney Pollack’s conversations with Gehry, come off as genuine.  Julian Schnabel takes the prize for best celebrity friend, cheap zoloft pharmacy, Purchase zoloft online, and dishes out the accolades while doing a perfect impression of Jeff Bridges in the Big Lebowski, complete with drink and bathrobe.  At one point in one of Mr, cheap zoloft no prescription. Real zoloft without prescription, Schnabel’s monologues, he is practically rolling on the floor, zoloft without rx, Order zoloft no prescription required, so taken is he in his praise of the Gehry (though it could’ve been the cocktail).

Frank Gehry is no Clark Gabel, zoloft no rx required, Compare zoloft prices online, nor does he have the sinister panache of Robert Mitchum.  In the movie, of which he is the star, zoloft online stores, Find zoloft on internet, he comes off as “just another guy from Canada” and this is what makes the film a bit difficult to watch.  No one likes to see another Forest Gump- especially in the narcissistic field of architecture.  We want to see stars!  Alien creatures like Rem Koolhaas, Jean Novel, zoloft no online prescription, Order discount zoloft online, and Zaha Hadid- People who don’t seem to eat, shit, purchase zoloft overnight delivery, Buy cheapest zoloft on line, or fuck, and exude a “God-Like” aura in both their persona and their work.   Gehry certainly has the latter, but as for the aura, well, it’s just a dim glow.

“What don’t you like?”

As someone who is not particularly interested in Hollywood or its product, I surprised myself by wishing for more celebrity aura in this film.  Perhaps, it is because Frank Gehry’s work has played such a tremendous role in shaping the connections between Architecture and Contemporary Culture.  After all, without him, there’d be no “Bilbao Effect”.  He can be directly credited for ushering architecture into the computer age as his later work cannot exist without it.  In short, the contributions he has made to our culture go beyond the simple beauty and monumentality inherent in his buildings, and extend to making architecture popular again.  There are enough “everyday joe” architects and with architecture enjoying a renewed love affair with the general public, it’s only fair that we give them the stars they want.  But Gehry doesn’t want to be the star.  In the film he’s always the blushing teenager who’s embarrassed that his dad has the video camera out at his birthday party.  This is never so clear as at a point early on in the film when Sydney Pollack is grilling Gehry about a model he is fussing with.  “What don’t you like?” he asks innocently.  “I don’t know yet.” Gehry purrs.  “It seems rather pompous”.

Well, Mr. Gehry, maybe that’s alright.
